Bah from GuineaWhen I was younger, in my village in Guinea, we used to sit under the Pamplamos tree at night. We read in the Koran in the light from the moon. We had a nice time, this is our culture. At 10 o’clock, we had dinner together with our parents, then they gave us their blessing and we went to sleep. In the morning, we went to the French school. We had our culture, but we went to school to learn the white culture, the French culture. After school, we came back, and we had to go to the river to fetch water. Then we started to prepare the dinner.Bah wrote this during the workshops at Dikemark spring 2015. He got his application rejected and left the reception center in the middle of a workshop. He was afraid to be caught by the police and sent back to Guinea. After he left, his original writing and drawings were collected and made into a book.75
