ParticipantsTarget groupsPalestiniansPalestinian refugees have been living in Lebanon since the expulsion from Palestine in 1948, when Israel was established. Many of the children that we meet in today’s refugee camps are 4th generation refugees. There are 450,000 registered Palestinian refugees in Lebanon (UNRWA 2016). The exact number of how many Palestinians actually live in Lebanon is unknown, but it is estimated to be 250,000 and 300,000.More than half the Palestinian population lives in one of the 12 camps around the country (UNRWA- AUB Survey 2010). Some live outside the camps or in uno cial gatherings. A few have become Lebanese citizens, and some have immigrated to other counties.Palestinians are considered as foreign citizens in Lebanon; they are not allowed to own property and are banned from working in a variety of professions. Palestinians relay on services, like school and healthcare, from United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).In addition to the 12 o cial camps, there are several uno cial ones, varying in location and size.20
